These are a few simple security precautions to
ensure your home is safe. These are inexpensive
methods that anyone can use. They will save you
financially and emotionally in the long run. Think
about it, right now there are 5-6 houses being
broke into. This will protect yours.
In 2/3 of break-ins it is usually through the
doors and the other 32% is through the windows.
The best security measure for your home is a
Home Security System with alarm monitoring. Good
secure security locks and a CCTV (a home security
camera) is also a good security measure for your
home.
To further secure your home there are some simple
prevented measures that you can take. These are
very cost effective if any for you.
Install a peephole (door viewer), and also a
bolt and chain. Make sure that your external doors
are locked, especially in the evenings. If you
have cellar or basement doors install a deadbolt
from the inside or a hasp and padlock from the
outside.
Make sure when you leave or at night that you
lock all of your windows, especially the small
ones (small people can slide right through them).
Make sure that all of your outside and gardening
equipment is locked up safe. This includes anything
they can use to enter your home, such as ladders,
axes, etc.
Do not leave your purse or wallet within easy
access, as they can grab and run.
Most people will hide a spare key under the mat
or a plant, do not do this. If you have a neighbor
that you can trust leave it with them.
Another cheap idea that you can use is security
lights. Thieves do not like to be seen. There
are security lights that have motion detectors.
They are usually pretty easy to install. This
will also help when you are trying to get into
your house in the evenings, as it will light it
up. The last thing a thief wants to see is a security
light.
Some motion detectors come with an alarm. This
will let you know when someone has crossed its
path. The last thing the thief wants is to be
noticed and hopefully this will scare them away.
You have to carefully consider where to place
the detector where it will be away from children
and pets.
If you do not have a neighborhood watch in your
area, you can call your local Police Department.
They can help you to start one and help on running
it.
In the evenings when you go out be sure to close
all curtains and blinds. You can also leave a
radio on. Make it look like someone is there.
Here is another good security measure. Window
locks, they are fairly cheap, easy to install.
Pay close attention to the windows on the first
floor, and do not forget to leave the key in when
you go out.
Use a security pen to mark your items. Thieves
are less likely to take something that has been
engraved.
Over time the average family has a pretty good
size CD or DVD collection. The price of these
collections is not cheap.
Pay extra attention to your electronics, your
TVs, VCRs, DVD players, and especially your jewelry.
Remember that this is your property all it takes
is a few simple steps from it becoming someone
else who possesses the property.
It is bad enough that they have taken your property,
but it is the fact that someone has come into
your home, your safe haven. They have invaded
your privacy.
Most thieves are opportunist so do not give them
the opportunity.
This will save you a lot of stress and hassel.
